BLOG - 2 STAFF TRAINING & DEVELOPMENT
According to Abiodun,
(1999) Employee training is the systematic development of the information,
abilities, and attitudes necessary for them to perform well on a certain
activity or job. It can occur in a variety of settings, both on and off the job
and a job within or outside of the corporation.
According to Rowley, (1995) Training and development
are essential for the organization's human resource base to remain healthy, and
they must be considered as an integral element of the overall strategy.
Nine Elements That Makes Employee Training Program Successful.
1.
Effective Training Program Management
This person will be referred as the program
manager, training and development manager, learning
and development expert, training coordinator, chief learning officer, or a
variety of other titles in some firms. This person, regardless of title, is in
charge of training and development.
2.
Assessments of Learning Needs
It is necessary to take the time to comprehend the
past, present, and future directions. Research, interviews, and internal
surveys can all be used to conduct a needs assessment.
The ability to correctly determine who needs to be
trained and on what skills or topics is at the heart of any effective training
program.
3.
Aligning Training to Business Goals
Needs must be linked with organizational initiatives after they have been identified. The program manager should create a curriculum to solve organizational issues and support business objectives. Employees will be more likely to understand the training if it follows this pattern, and managers and leaders will be more likely to support it.
4.
Setting Goals and Tracking the Right Training Metrics
It might be difficult to quantify the benefits of employee
training. Quantifying training becomes considerably easier when the program
manager is able to discover organizational needs that are linked with the
business.
When setting goals, make sure you include quantity, quality, time, cost, and effectiveness in your measurements. Develop a benchmarking approach for assessing your progress toward your objectives, and make sure that data and reports are readily available to give you with the information you require.
5.
Leaders Bought into and Encouraging Employee Learning
Leadership buy-in from the top down is one of the most crucial aspects of a successful training and development program. Leadership support helps to emphasize the value of a program, ensure accountability, and set proper expectations.
When the program manager is able to identify the organization's needs, match them with the business, and set codified targets and metrics that will generate outcomes, it is easier to gain leadership buy-in.
6.
Modern and Relevant Training Content
Providing relevant training content is essential for a successful training program, as it ensures that your learners are engaged and return for more.
Today's learner is distracted, overwhelmed, and has little spare time. It's not only important – it's critical – to tailor material to their preferences.
The training content you deliver to your employees must be
relevant and timely in order to assist them with their everyday tasks, broaden
their horizons, and offer them with actionable takeaways.
7.
Creative Ideas that Draw Employees into Learning
Over the years, we've seen that programs with a creative component are viewed as more useful to the business.
Creativity can begin with a theme-based program launch, which could be as basic as a corporate university or college layout.
8.
Consistently Marketing the Training Program
A marketing strategy is a vital component of a successful learning and development program and is an integral aspect of your execution. A great marketing strategy comprises not only the first launch but also continued efforts throughout the program.
9.
Training Reinforcement to Increase Learning Retention
Many companies spend thousands of dollars every year training personnel just to discover that they aren't putting what they've learned into practice. The importance of training reinforcement in ensuring that training is put into practice on the job cannot be overstated.
Employees will forget practically all training in less than
a week if they are not given the opportunity to remember it.
